Title: Qaṣr al-Muwaqqar: una contestualizzazione storica
Authors: Dodoni, Stefania
Issue Date: 2000
Publisher: Padova, Editoriale Programma
Abstract: This study intends to evaluate the political importance of Qaṣr al-Muwaqqar in its historical context. Qaṣr al-Muwaqqar was one of the many Umayyad structures erected in the territory of the Bilād al-Shām, but one of the few clearly associated by the ancient Arabic sources with a member of the first dynasty of Islam: the caliph Yazīd ibn ‘Abd al-Malik. The present condition of the qaṣr doesn't allow us to compare it to other Umayyad buildings found in the region. This notwhithstanding, through the interaction of historical, archeological and geographical information we hope to offer an interdisciplinary view on the signifance of this structure. At the same time this article wants to be an element of support to other studies focussed on the importance of the Balqā’ region and its tribes for the Umayyad caliphate.
