Abstract: This article is about the character of Lakshmibai, rani of Jhansi, one of the protagonists of the great Indian rebellion of 1857-58 against the British rule, as narrated in a novel, "Jhansi ki rani Lakshmibai" (Lakshmibai, queen of Jhansi, 1946), written by Vrindavanlal Varma (1889-1969), and in a film, "Jhansi ki rani" (The queen of Jhansi, 1953), directed by Sohrab Modi (1897-1984). This analysis wants to illustrate the few similarities and the many differences in the representation of the same historical past event in the light of the different years of publication and release of the two narratives
