Title: L'incompiuto di Māmallapuram
Authors: Filippi, Gian Giuseppe
Issue Date: 2008
Publisher: Padova, Studio Editoriale Gordini
Abstract: On the Eastern bank of Southern India, in the site of Mahabalipuram, there are two huge monuments consisting in two bas-reliefs. One of them is clearly an unfinished work-of-art. The iconopraphic and iconologic study of the unifished bas-relief, and the comparison with the first one, offer the key for the interpretation of the subject engraved in the stone. In this way there is no doubt that the subject represented is the same, that is the descent of the Ganges river from heaven to earth, as told in the ancient 'Mahabharata' epic.
