Title: Il modo congiuntivo tedesco: una proposta d'analisi
Authors: Chinellato, Paolo

Abstract: In this work I have sketched an analysis of the German Subjunctive Mood. After presenting the traditional analysis of the German Subjunctives 1 and 2 in subordinate clauses, I have introduced the [+reported] and [+distance] features. I have proposed that the [+reported]feature present in Subjunctive 1 influences its temporal interpretatio. Since German does not have a consecutio temporum, Subjunctive1 can establish a relation of sumultaneity in the past with the verb in the matrix clause. Subjunctive 2 does not establish such a relation since it carries a [+ distance] feature which shift its interpreation in a pure hypothetical domain. Differently to Italian, which has a consecutio temporum, German has a mood selection in order to activate these two features.
