Abstract: Unfortunately for the textual criticism of the Alexander Romance in Armenian version, most of the codices, with notable exceptions, date from the 16th-18th centuries and consequently reflect a long transmission marked by scribal error and secondary readings. In recent years attention has been drawn to the oldest extant witness, Ms. 10151 (13th century) of the Matenadaran in Erevan. Since the other witnesses to the recension (Text B) it represents evince its acephalous and incomplete textual state, it has been regarded as the archetype from which all the others directly or indirectly derive. Moreover, since its chronological precedence was considered indicative of textual priority, it has been judged closest to the original translation
