Title: Il capitolo 25 dal Zhong lun. Esaminare il Nirvāṇa
Authors: Zacchetti, Stefano
Issue Date: 2002
Publisher: Padova, Editoriale Programma
Abstract: The translations made by Kumārajīva at the beginning of the 5th century AD represented, in many respects, a turning point in the history of Chinese Buddhism. The introduction of the Mādhyamika literature made for the first time accessible to the Chinese audience this fundamental exegetical tradition of Indian Buddhism. Among Kumārajīva's translations, the Zhong lun, a commentary on Nāgārjuna's Mūlamadhyamakakārikāḥ, stands out as one of the most significant. This article contains an annotated translation of chapter 25 of the Zhong lun, which deals with the notion of nirvāṇa, analysed in the light of the corresponding Sanskrit stanzas by Nāgārjuna.
