Title: Forme dell'encomio nelle Sayfyyāt di Abū ṭ-Ṭayyib al-Mutanabbī
Authors: Diez, Martino
Issue Date: 2008
Publisher: Padova, Studio Editoriale Gordini
Abstract: This article examines the formal characteristics of the Sayfyyāt, the poetical cycle composed by Abū ṭ-Ṭayyib al-Mutanabbī in praise of the Hamdanid emir Sayf ad-Dawla. In contrast to Ibn Qutayba's description of the classical ode, the Sayfyyāt show a predominance of monothematic praise qaṣā'id, followed by bipartite odes. Only a few poems conform to Ibn Qutayba's canons. A more precise description of Mutanabbī's compositional strategies can be found in a page by Ibn al-Aṯīr.
