Title: Cinema hindi e storia. Orizzonti della ricerca
Authors: Cossio, Cecilia
Issue Date: 2001
Publisher: Padova, Editoriale Programma
Abstract: This article is an introductory study on the representation of Indian history as it takes shape in Hindi cinema. As in other parts of the world, also in Indian - and specifically Hindi _cinema, the historical genre dates back from the beginnings of the new medium. For a long time, even after Independence, the Hindi film has hardly paid any attention to historical accuracy, with a few exceptions. In recent years, however, a serious re-reading of Indian history seems to gain ground also in this cinema. A travelling shot on the Hindi historical film from the beginnnings of the Nineties, together with a brief statement of the main studies on the subject "History and Cinema", both in the West and in India, offers a preliminary survey of the research field.
