|Authors:||Van de Berg, Gabrielle|
|Publisher:||Padova, Editoriale Programma|
|Abstract:||In this article the phenomenon of musammaṭ, also called musaǰǰa, is examined. These terms are used to denote a specific form of internal rhyme appearing in classical Persian ghazals and qaṣīdas. It is one of the many poetical devices discussed in Persian books on prosody. These treatises have been written from an early point onwards and they form valuable sources for the study of the system of Persian poetry. Various different descriptions of the internal rhyme discussed in this article can be found in these sources. In order to see how this particular kind of internal rhyme is treated in Persian literature, both early books on prosody and a number of more modern sources have been examined here.|
