|Title:||Osservazioni sulla lingua nel racconto Al-‘Atb ‘alâ al-naẓar di Yûsuf Idrîs|
|Publisher:||Padova, Editoriale Programma|
|Abstract:||This article is a linguistic analysis of one of Yûsuf Idrîs last short stories, namely al-‘Atb ‘alâ al-naẓar (It's sight that's to blame!), from the collection by the same title published in 1987. This work can be considered a rare experiment of modern Arabic literature written mainly in dialect (Egyptian ‘âmmyya), although the story is not couched in only one linguistic variety, rather in an original alternation of both main varities fuṣḥâ and ‘âmmiyya. However, in al-‘Atb ‘alâ al-naẓar Idrîs chose ‘âmmiyya as his privileged literary medium not confining it only to the dialogue.|
