Authors: Cunial, Stefania
Issue Date: 1998

Abstract: This study intends to offer a contribution to the attempts of the scholars to analyse the relationship between the Islamic popular tradition, related to the conception and birth of the human being, and the view of the orthodox tradition, which dates back to the first Islamic community. To do so, we have fixed as main reference point the work of the Egyptian theologian Ğalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūṭī (d. ca. 1505) On examination, the texts reveal the constant presence of the angels since the human being is conceived until his birth.
