| Abstract: | This article is about a new and singular way of reading 'Rimas Várias' by Sóror Violante do Céu, one of the most interesting and bestknown Portuguese poetesses of the 17th century. In her poetic language the Baroque age is strongly reflected as a 'condition'; a materialization of a possibility where disintegration of the limits of the poet's world is but an amplification of its horizons. The inner conflict between poetic language and the poet's first-person word makes Violante's poetic word a place of anguish, illusion and emptiness. This gives rise to a 'game of conflicts and negations' which has its own peculiar theme in the image of 'viva morte'. |
