"Voce da voce" : l'oralità trasferita

Abstract

From ancient times, translation, and in particular, poetic translation, has highlighted the hermeneutic meaning of competition/contrast between the written and the oral word. Where synonymic and homonymic modality necessarily overlay and alternate with one another, translators have always tried to reach that dimension which reconciles/harmonises the voice of the original text with that of the translation. Particularly interesting theoretical and practical results appeared between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance when European languages were establishing their autonomy from classical languages, and were making every effort to demonstrate their excellence in reciprocal competition. In more recent times, the semiotics of the 1970s and 1980s subjected the boldest experiments which guided the contemporary avant-garde to careful classification and impassioned discussion, with results that are still open to debate and reflection.
