Abstract: The article deals with the definition of the frontier, in order to introduce the role of the captives in the historical and literary tradition of Argentine culture. From the perspective of a postmodern novel by César Aira, 'Ema, la cautiva' (1981), it is possible to reverse the tradition of the 'literatura fronteriza', attributing a new meaning and new significances to the figure of the white captive woman of the nineteenth century. Playing with parody, César Aira thus offers a personal and original reading of the literary past.</description>

Abstract: 'The Secret Sharer', Conrad's greatest contribution to the literature of the double, defines a whole series of concerns and conflicts central to both his life and fiction. While producing a dynamic narrative structure, the motif of the divided self becomes a device to overcome the boundaries of adventure in favour of a psychological realism of striking profundity, the drama of a divided subjectivity. Here the double, a fascinating and mysterious murderer, is both the projection of the protagonist's dark side and an empathetic other instrumental in the individuation process and emergence of the sense of self.</description>

Abstract: This article is about a new and singular way of reading 'Rimas Várias' by Sóror Violante do Céu, one of the most interesting and bestknown Portuguese poetesses of the 17th century. In her poetic language the Baroque age is strongly reflected as a 'condition'; a materialization of a possibility where disintegration of the limits of the poet's world is but an amplification of its horizons. The inner conflict between poetic language and the poet's first-person word makes Violante's poetic word a place of anguish, illusion and emptiness. This gives rise to a 'game of conflicts and negations' which has its own peculiar theme in the image of 'viva morte'.</description>

Abstract: Max Jacob's 'poèmes en prose' come in the wake of the revolutionary 'poème-illumination' by Rimbaud. They offer a discontinuity which contracts lengths and distances in a fragmented vision acquiring the traits of metaphysical painting. This fragmentary nature, suspended in an ever-possible but never-defined polysemantic dimension, draws a disquieting and oneiric urban picture, the dramatic force of which finds a salvational escape in childhood memory.</description>
